The Open Water Diver course is the world's most popular scuba certification. You do the theory online at your own pace, practise skills in calm, shallow water, then make 4 real dives on the reef with your instructor. Never more than 4 students per instructor, so you get real attention.

Before you start
- Minimum age 10 (ages 10–14 get the Junior certification)
- Swim 200 metres and float for 10 minutes, any style

Questions
How long does the course take?
3 days in the water, after about 10 hours of online theory at home. Most people do the theory in the week before their trip.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
No. You need to swim 200 metres (any style, no time limit) and float for 10 minutes.
How deep will I go?
Open Water Divers are certified to 18 metres (60 feet). Your first dives are shallower.
What does the certification let me do?
Dive with a buddy anywhere in the world, rent gear and join dive trips. It never expires.
What if I have a medical condition?
You fill in a short medical questionnaire. If you answer yes to anything, you need a doctor's sign-off before diving.
Can kids join?
Yes, from age 10. Ages 10–14 earn the Junior Open Water certification, with a few depth limits.
How much is the deposit and when do I pay the rest?
$150 today to hold your spot. The remaining $449 is paid at the shop on day 1.
Can I change my dates?
Yes, free of charge up to 48 hours before day 1. Just reply to your confirmation text.
